User Agreement

Pinhold is run by Sword in Board Workshop. Using it means you agree to what is on this page. If you do not agree, do not use it.
Treat every board as public
A board is protected by a passphrase and nothing more. Passphrases may be shared, forwarded, left on screens, and occasionally guessed. Anyone holding one can read the whole board associated with it, and we can read any board on the site for moderation purposes. Consider a board a sort of semi-public blog.
So: put nothing on a board you would mind a stranger reading. Not passwords, not bank details, not medical or legal papers, not anything about another person that they would not want posted on a wall. The site is built to feel like a corkboard in a hallway, and that is exactly how private it is.
You are 13 or older
You need to be at least 13 to use Pinhold. If you are under 13, do not create a board or send a submission. Doing so will result in that content being removed.
The site asks you to confirm this the first time you use it on a device, and again the first time you open a board you have not been on before. It remembers that you did, so it is not a question you meet every visit unless you are switching between boards often.
What you may not put up
You may not use Pinhold to post, upload or link to:
- Sexual content involving anyone under 18.
- Intimate images of a real person shared without their consent, whether real or faked.
- Real threats of violence, or anything urging someone to commit violence.
- Depictions of extreme violence. (Combat sports are not extreme violence, gore and rekt images are.)
- Work that is not yours to post without the owner's consent — other people's photos, writing, art or music.
- Malware, phishing pages, or links to either. Links you write are shown as links inside an item; do not use that to send people somewhere harmful.
- Automated scraping, bulk board creation, or attempts to guess passphrases.

Moderation
We are a very small operation and do not read boards looking for problems. We rely heavily on community reporting.
There is a Report this board item in the menu of every board. Use that if you can, because it brings the board with it — there is nothing else you could hand us that points at one. Boards have no address of their own: the link is the same for all of them, and the passphrase is what decides which you get. Reporting does not lock the board or interrupt anyone using it; it saves a copy of the board as it looks at that moment, alongside the report, so what gets reviewed cannot be edited or deleted out from under it.
If you cannot get to the board, write to swordinboard@gmail.com with the board's name and what is wrong with it. The name is enough for us to find it. You do not need to be the person affected.
We will act on:
- Sexual content involving a child. Always, immediately, and reported to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children's CyberTipline, as U.S. law requires of us.
- Intimate images posted without the subject's consent.
- Credible threats of violence.
- Anything a court or law enforcement requires us to act on.
We can remove things and close boards
We can delete any item, any board, or any account, at any time, with or without warning, for any reason or none. In practice that means the things listed above, plus anything that is costing more to host than we are willing to pay. We are not obliged to keep a copy or to tell you first, but we will be as reasonable as possible.
A board under review can also be shut entirely — nobody, including its own passphrase holders, can get into it — while we look into a report. This is never automatic and never triggered by a report on its own; it is a deliberate step taken after a report has actually been looked at, and it is lifted again once that review is done, one way or the other.
Boards are deleted after 180 days
If nobody looks at a board for 180 days, it is deleted automatically — the board, its items and its pictures. Opening it resets the clock. Nothing warns you before this happens and there is no undo.
Pinhold is not a place to keep anything. It is a wall, not an archive. Keep your own copies of anything you would be sorry to lose.
Your content stays yours
You keep ownership of everything you put up. You give us permission to store it, copy it and show it to people who open the board — which is what running the site consists of, and nothing more. We will not sell it, license it to anyone, train anything on it or use it to advertise. That permission ends when you delete the content, except for backups that have not yet rolled over.
By putting something up you are confirming it is yours to put up, or that you have permission.
The site is free and comes with no promises
Pinhold is provided as it is. We do not promise it will be available, that it will keep your content, that it will be free of faults, or that it is fit for anything in particular. We may change it or shut it down at any time, but we really hope not to.
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for anything you lose by using it — including lost content, lost time, lost business, or anything someone else posts.
You are responsible for what you put up. If someone sues us because of something you posted, you agree to cover our costs in dealing with it.
Accessibility
Pinhold is run by one person. The intent is to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) at a reasonable level, particularly for the parts everyone needs regardless of a board's own design — signing in, reading and sending a submission, these notices. A corkboard you drag, pinch and rotate items on is inherently a visual, spatial thing, and some of what a board can look like will always be easier to use by eye than by ear; where that's true we'd rather say so than pretend otherwise.
This is not a conformance statement. Nobody has run a formal audit against WCAG or any other standard, so we won't claim a level we haven't verified — treat this as a stated intent and an open door, not a certification. If something on Pinhold is hard or impossible to use with the tools you rely on, write to swordinboard@gmail.com and say what it was and what you were trying to do. We can't promise a fix on any particular timeline, but a real report against a real page is the only way this turns into something checked.
Governing law
This agreement is governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that isn't resolved directly between us goes to the state or federal courts sitting in Massachusetts, and both of us agree to that as the place to bring it. Either side can still take an individual claim to small claims court instead, if it qualifies.
