Pinhold is run by Sword in Board Workshop. This page is for a copyright owner who believes something on a board infringes their work, and for someone whose own item was taken down over a copyright claim and thinks that was wrong. It is separate from the Report this board option inside a board: that is the quicker path for a viewer who already holds a passphrase and thinks something is illegal in general. A copyright notice under U.S. law has to go to the agent named below instead, because it carries its own legal weight and its own required form.
The short version: email the address below with what the law requires — listed under How to send a notice — and it will be looked at. Had something of yours taken down over a copyright claim and think that was wrong? You can send a counter-notice the same way.
How to send a notice
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c)(3), a notice has to include all of the following to be acted on:
- Your physical or electronic signature, or that of someone authorized to act for the copyright owner.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you say is infringed.
- Identification of the material on Pinhold you say is infringing, specific enough to locate it. Boards have no address of their own beyond their passphrase, so include the board's name and anything else that helps place the exact item — a title, roughly where it sits, when you saw it.
- Contact information: your address, phone number, and email.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on their behalf.
The agent
What happens next
A notice with all six elements above gets acted on: the item comes down, or the board does if that is what the notice identifies. There are no accounts on Pinhold to notify beyond that.
A notice missing something from that list is not acted on until it is complete. You will be told what is missing so it can be resent.
Counter-notice
If material of yours was removed and you believe that was a mistake or a case of mistaken identity, you can send a counter-notice to the same address with:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material removed and where it was before removal.
- A statement, made under penalty of perjury, that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your name, address, and phone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, if you are outside the United States, any district where Pinhold may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who filed the original notice.
Unless the original claimant files a court action within the time the law allows, the material may then be restored.
